Calgary is full of car dealerships and showrooms, with dozens of locations to choose from. So, how can you stand out in a crowded industry? You get creative!
Canyon Creek Toyota, located in the Canyon Meadows neighbourhood of southeast Calgary, reached out to The Garage Store to help create a unique space. They had some big ideas to start with, like a gas pump for the drive-thru entrance with a giant tire around the globe on top. But they wanted to know what more they could do.
Customizing a Calgary Car Dealership
From that starting point, we talked about some different options. Eventually, we all landed on the idea of some interesting 3D drywall, custom furniture, and scenes of the Calgary skyline, built right into the seating area and the building. After a bit of planning, the work was ready to begin.
The initial 3D drywall piece – a big scene of the Alberta wilderness with a welcome message on top – took shape near the entrance. It looked so good that a second piece was commissioned for the Parts department. Mountains, vehicles, rivers, and hundreds of individual trees were carved and highlighted. After an offhand joke by the manager, even a Sasquatch found its way into the artwork, where eagle-eyed customers and new staff can try to find it to this day.
The seating area needed something special, too. We designed and built a custom coffee table with a racetrack inside, complete with toys bought and reused from a second-hand store. Finished off with little versions of Calgary landmarks, the track looks like a race inside a mini version of the city. We also built and installed two cabinets, with glass fronts and shelves, which look like retro gas pumps for a “classic garage” feel.
One of our favourite parts is the bench in the seating area, which was designed and painted to look like the back end of a Toyota truck. It brings a smile to everyone’s face when they see it.
